"Don't disrespect me."
― Wonder-Rodin's Taunt

Wonder-Rodin is a character from the Bayonetta series who is unlockable as a Secret Wonderful One with the ability to perform a unique Unite Hammer Icon AltUnite Hammer attack.

Wonderful File[]

Owner of The Gates of Hell, a bar in the urban slums known only as The Dive. On the surface, he is a bartender, but his true identity is one of a powerful demon from Inferno. His name alone is capable of making angels freeze in terror.

Known as the Gunsmith from Hell, Rodin's weapons are far too powerful for human use. The demon seems to take a special joy in watching his patrons, Bayonetta and Jeanne, use his creations to devastating effect against the angels of Paradise, and this may be one explanation as to why he lives in the realm of humans. In fact, before becoming a demon, Rodin was said to be a high-ranking angel in Paradiso. The reasons for his expulsion remain unknown.

After Bayonetta turned down his newly developed magical hammer, Yagyu, he felt left with no choice but to join the battle and put on a personal display of its power.

Owing to his imposing stature, you would never be able to guess that he is deathly afraid of small birds, to the point that he avoids walking outside during the day. Strangely, though, he seems to have a soft spot for flightless penguins: collecting penguin statues, stuffed animals, and any other penguin-related goods he can get his hands on.

Weapon: Yagyu
Draw a Unite Hammer sign to Unite Morph.
This attack is capable of a powerful three-hit combo.

Description[]

Wonder-Rodin's appearance is based on his design from the first Bayonetta game.

Wonder-Rodin is an imposing black man with no hair, and tribal-looking tattoos all over his upper body, including his hands and face. His CENTINEL-Suit consists of black boots, dark brown leather pants, a grey shirt, a red scarf, and a long light brown leather coat with popped collars brandishing the Wonderful Ones logo across its back. Underneath his Wonder-Mask, Wonder-Rodin wears black sunglasses to conceal his demonic red eyes.
Like all Wonderful Ones, when Wonder-Rodin activates his suit's Unlimited Form a cape is released from the back of the suit and jaw-like plates extend from his mask, covering his mouth. When unmasked, his suit vanishes and he is reduced to a pair of yellow boxer shorts and a fluffy yellow night cap, both of which appear to be covered in images of baby chicks, and his sunglasses.

Wonder-Rodin's weapon, which he originally created for Bayonetta, is Yagyu: a massive double-faced Hammer that is entirely golden in color. On each side of the Hammer's head is the logo to his bar, The Gates of Hell, which consists of a cartoonish devil tip-toeing with guns in its hands inside a circle.

Gameplay[]

Unite Hammer Icon Alt

Wonder-Rodin is a Unite Hammer user with a special ability: Wonder-Rodin possesses the ability to perform a three-hit combo as his Unite Hammer's basic attack, rather than a single overhead strike like other Unite Hammer users. The overall damage and attack speed of Wonder-Rodin's multi-hit combo is comparable to that of a Hammer Cyclone.

Trivia[]

  • Though Wonder-Rodin's real name is listed as unknown in his profile, it is simply Rodin. In the Bayonetta universe he has also been known as Father Rodin or Rodin the Infinite One.
  • Wonder-Rodin's weapon, Yagyu, would later go on to appear in Bayonetta 2 as a weapon used by Jeanne with the same name. Yagyu's description in Bayonetta 2 references the events of The Wonderful 101, and states that Rodin later modified it to increase its power before giving it to Jeanne, explaining its new appearance. Its description also states that Bayonetta turned down the weapon because she dislikes its name.
  • Because Rodin's appearance in The Wonderful 101 predates the film adaptation Bayonetta: Bloody Fate and the Japanese dub of the first Bayonetta game, he does not have a Japanese voice actor in the game, and Wonder-Rodin uses English voice lines regardless of the game's language setting. Rodin's Japanese voice actor in later games is Tesshō Genda.
