"You remind me of myself at your age, Blue. Reckless, hotheaded. Knows more than anyone."
― Commander Nelson describing his younger self to Wonder-Blue, Operation 006-B
Wonder-Red (Emeritus), also known as Larry to his friends, was CENTINELS Commander Laurence Nelson's past self as a Wonderful One during the events of Earth Defense War II, 20 years prior to the events of The Wonderful 101.
Described by his future self as reckless and hotheaded, the original Wonder-Red used to dive head first into danger, risking his life on the regular to complete his missions and to protect others.
Nelson was also an old friend of GDA Officer Arthur Wedgewood: the father of young Will Wedgewood (the new Wonder-Red.)
Wonder-Red (Emeritus) makes a brief playable appearance during a flashback sequence in Operation 006-B, wielding Unite Drill as a weapon.
Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is also permanently unlockable as a Secret Character.
Wonderful File[]
The young Commander Nelson.
A tested hero serving as leader of the Wonderful 100, commanding 99 other Wonderful Ones into the fray of Earth Defense War II. Nelson's hot-blooded personality found him butting heads with his commanding officers time and time again, but his dedication to the success of the mission resulted in countless victories.
With his rash personality, Nelson runs headfirst into even the most dangerous missions, bringing him within inches of death more times than he can count. This, however, was largely due to his philosophy of putting the safety of his team first by putting himself in harm's way.

Description[]
Appearance[]
In his youth, Laurence Nelson had long dark hair styled into an outrageously huge, drill-like pompadour, which was apparently gelled so hard that he could weaponize as an attack. He also had a thin, zigzagging mustache, and his gray eyes were more easily seen.
As an Earth Defense War II era Wonderful One, the original Wonder-Red wore a vintage-looking second generation CENTINEL-Suit, as opposed to the third generation suits seen in the present day:
The original Wonder-Red's second generation CENTINEL-Suit consisted of a crimson red suit, black boots and gloves, a brown leather jacket with popped collars, baggy salmon-pink pants held up by a belt, and though his Wonder-Mask appeared normal, the suit lacked a communicator ear piece. The suit's most remarkable difference however was its power supply: rather than the sleek next-generation Shirogane Drives seen on modern CENTINEL-Suits, the "old-generation" Shirogane Drive on the original Wonder-Red's suit was a considerably more primitive and bulky computerized unit on the front of his chest, with thick metal cables draped over his shoulders connecting it to a secondary power source on his back, which was a copper-colored box with exposed wires and vacuum tubes. The front unit displayed a Wonderful Ones emblem, and the back unit brandished the full Wonderful 100 emblem.
When Wonder-Red (Emeritus) activates Unlimited Form, a cape is released from the back of his suit and an old-style vertical grille extends from his mask, covering his mouth.
When unmasked, the young Laurence Nelson is reduced to black briefs, revealing not only an unusual spiral-shaped patch of chest hair, but also that only the front of his body is covered in scars: proof that he never showed his back to the enemy.
The original Wonder-Red's issued weapon was the Captain Drill: a massive conical drill held in his right hand with a red base that fully covers his forearm.
Additionally, Nelson was accompanied by a retro-looking prototype version of P-Star. This version of P-Star is considerably more primitive, as it only consisted of a boxy wood grain CRT television with minor modifications, including a fan on its underside to propel itself.
Personality and Traits[]
Commander Nelson compares his past self to Wonder-Blue, describing himself as having once been reckless, hotheaded, and knowing better than anyone else. However, unlike Wonder-Blue, who was originally motivated by selfish revenge, the young Laurence Nelson's reckless behavior was rooted in his selflessness, as he was dedicated to completing his missions even if that meant risking his life, and he believed that only by putting himself into harm's could he protect the lives of others.
Despite their opposing personalities, Nelson was an old friend of the calm and responsible GDA Officer Arthur Wedgewood, with a long history of battling together that apparently resulted in Nelson frequently ending up indebted to Arthur.
Nelson's habit of owing favors to Arthur resulted in a fateful encounter in the final hours of Earth Defense War II:
In a last-ditch attack against the GEATHJERK, Arthur planned to ram the GEATHJERK Mothership with his warship after its missile guidance systems were knocked offline: a suicide attack that would guarantee victory for Earth, as the warship was carrying a special Digital Pandemic Missile designed by Professor Shirogane to disable the entire GEATHJERK invasion force.
This plan was complicated by the fact that Arthur's son, Young Will, snuck onboard the warship to be with his father. Though Arthur summoned Nelson to evacuate his son, Nelson instead insisted on taking control of the warship himself so that Arthur and Will could escape together: an argument interrupted by the GEATHJERK Officer Laambo boarding the warship and mortally wounding Arthur in a surprise attack.
Though Nelson was able to drive off Laambo, Arthur's mortal injuries made the decision for him to stay onboard obvious. As a result, Arthur entrusted Will to Nelson, and completed his attack on the GEATHJERK Mothership, sacrificing himself to win the war for Earth.
Blaming himself for failing to save Arthur's life, Nelson would go on to feel a special responsibility for Young Will, and developed a personal interest in seeing him succeed in life, particularly after he would go on to replace him as the new Wonder-Red.
Gameplay[]
As part of the game's story, Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is a temporary member of the team that is briefly playable as a solo character during the first two Missions of Operation 006-B.
Wonder-Red (Emeritus) enables the use of Unite Drill: a close range Unite Morph similar to Unite Hand that deals damage over time by drilling into enemies.
Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is one of only two Unite Drill users in the game, the other being the Secret Wonderful One version of his future self, Wonder-Captain. Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is considered to be the default user of Unite Drill, which cannot be changed.
Note that Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is a temporary member only available during Operation 006-B's flashback sequence. To use Wonder-Red (Emeritus) (and Unite Drill) on every level, he must be unlocked as a Secret Wonderful One.

Trivia[]
- Emeritus is an honorary title granted to someone who retires from a position but is allowed to continue using the title of that position, meaning that the current day Commander Nelson can still officially be addressed as Wonder-Red.
- Wonder-Red (Emeritus) is the least used temporary story character in the entire game, appearing in only 2 Missions in a single level.
- Wonder-Red (Emeritus) technically has the longest code-name out of any Wonderful One, at 14 characters counting the space and parentheses, as well as being the only Wonderful One other than Wonder-Ice Cream to have a space in their code-name. Additionally, Wonder-Red (Emeritus)'s code-name is long enough to be cut-off on the list of Wonderful Ones in the Member Files menu, requiring it to be scrolled to be displayed fully, a quirk shared with Wonder-Cheerleader and Wonder-Wonderland.
