Tiekuus are mobile fortresses used by the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada. Equipped with a powerful main cannon and the ability to fly, Tiekuus are versatile vehicles that can anchor themselves to the ground to function as a forward operating base, or take to the air to engage in aerial combat.
First encountered in Operation 001-B, Tiekuus are rarely encountered during normal gameplay, however they do appear in large numbers during The Wonderful 101's shoot 'em up missions.
A larger and more powerful version of Tiekuu known as the Die-Tiekuu is encountered as a mini boss at the end of Operation 001-B.
GEATHJERK File[]
A mobile anti-aircraft fortress capable of independent flight.
The Tiekuu uses its rapid-fire molecular-disintegration cannon to bombard ground-based enemy troops and to provide both cover and reinforcements for allied flying units. Its annihilation engine provides ample midair maneuverability, enabling it to hold its own in dogfights against enemy airborne units.
Internally equipped with a storage bay and residential quarters, the Tiekuu can transport both mobile weapons and infantry. An enormous anchor also lets the craft quickly dock on planetary surfaces. Put it all together, and you have a unit capable of serving as a highly functional forward base of operations.
Description[]

A Tiekuu acting as a base and attacking its surroundings
Tiekuus are enormous rotating cannons mounted on top of a round base surrounded by five spiked anchors, which are used to secure a Tiekuu to the ground when it lands. Their cannon resembles a Hoedown's cannon, but larger and equipped with square rocket launchers on its sides, which are concealed within the cannon when not in use.
Like most GEATHJERK forces, the colored details on a Tiekuu indicates its health: changing from blue, to green, to orange, and finally to red as it's damaged until it's destroyed.
Using a thruster on the underside of their base and by spinning like a helicopter for stability, Tiekuus are capable of flight, allowing them to relocate themselves or even engage in aerial combat.
Instead of their regular base, Tiekuu cannons are also encountered on the Giga-Goonkhan. Tiekuu cannons also resemble the secondary cannons found on the Die-Tiekuu and Die-Rixens, however, these cannons possess different abilities.
Gameplay (Regular Combat)[]
Overview[]
Tiekuus are stationary ranged enemies designed to attack from afar, and they're often placed completely outside of melee range, which can make seeing what they're doing and reaching them with your attacks difficult, especially when other enemies are attacking you at the same time.
Fortunately, Tiekuus are one of the most rarely fought enemies in the game, with only four appearances in total, so you don't have to worry about them too often (at least not during regular combat.)
As special enemies, Tiekuus are impossible to stun, are not susceptible to Climb Attacks, cannot be launched or thrown in any way, and cannot be made to drop an item using the Item Catcher Custom Block.
Variations[]
There are two versions of Tiekuus with different behavior: "Flying Tiekuus" hovering in the air and "Grounded Tiekuus" that are planted into the ground (or attached to the Giga-Goonkhan). Both forms have significant differences in the attacks they use, making what would otherwise be a fairly simple enemy much more confusing to understand.
Attacks[]
Cannonball Shot | ||
---|---|---|
A Tiekuu's cannon will expand with a stretching sound, after which it will fire a red cannonball that explodes on impact. This attack can be easily identified by the distinct stretching sound, which can be heard even from far off-screen. | ||
Properties: Blockable, No Stun Breakable Projectile | ||
Spike Ball Drop | ||
An attack used only by Flying Tiekuus. A Tiekuu will aim up as its cannon expands with a stretching sound and fire a spike ball. A red laser reticle showing where the spike ball will land will appear and follow the team leader before finally landing. The spike ball will remain on the ground dealing contact damage and eventually glow red before exploding. This attack can be identified by the stretching sound, and the laser reticle gives plenty of warning to avoid this attack. | ||
Properties: Unblockable Overhead Attack (Hammer/Naginata) Breakable Projectile The spike ball can be thrown using Unite Whip or Unite Gun. | ||
Cannonball Shot (Throwable) | ||
An attack used only by Grounded Tiekuus. A Tiekuu's cannon will expand with a stretching sound, after which it will fire a blue cannonball that stays on the ground on impact. The cannonball will eventually glow red and either explode, or roll towards its target to explode on impact. This attack can be easily identified by the distinct stretching sound, which can be heard even from far off-screen. | ||
Properties: Blockable, No Stun Overhead Attack (Hammer/Naginata) Breakable Projectile The cannonball can be thrown using Unite Whip, Unite Gun, or 4 team members. | ||
Drill Shot | ||
An attack used only by Grounded Tiekuus. A Tiekuu will suddenly fire a drill missile. This attack is used with no warning, so the only effective defense is to either keep enough distance to give yourself time to dodge or to keep moving so that it will miss. | ||
Properties: Unblockable Overhead Attack (Hammer/Naginata) Breakable Projectile | ||
Drill Barrage | ||
An attack used only by Grounded Tiekuus. A Tiekuu will aim up and fire 6 drill missiles one by one. A reticle will briefly appear for each drill missile showing where it will land. This attack can be identified by the Tiekuu aiming upward and the red reticles warning where each drill missile will land. | ||
Properties: Unblockable Overhead Attack (Hammer/Naginata) Breakable Projectile |
Strategy[]
The first thing to understand about Tiekuus is the difference between their two forms: Flying Tiekuus are limited to only the cannonball shot and spike ball drop, whereas grounded Tiekuus can use the cannonball shot, throwable cannonball shot, drill shot, and drill barrage.
Flying Tiekuus are the simpler of the two forms: being limited to only the cannonball shot and spike ball drop means that they essentially have the same attacks as a stationary Gehdown (minus their melee attacks), and they can be treated as such. Just listen for the stretching audio cue before either of the Tiekuu's attacks, and use Unite Guts to reflect the cannonball shot, or flee from the target if it fires a spike ball instead.

Using Unify Naginata to safely fight the Tiekuus in 008-C.
On the other hand, grounded Tiekuus are far more hazardous enemies. Their cannonball shot attacks can still be blocked using Unite Guts and the drill barrage attack is fairly easy to avoid, however, the drill shot is a cheap and fast attack, and one of the few attacks in the entire game that's used with virtually no warning. The only reliable way to avoid drill shots is to stay far away from the Tiekuu and to keep moving at all times to force it to miss, while damaging it from afar using Unite Gun or by reflecting its cannonball shots when you get the opportunity.
However, if Unify Naginata is available, you should consider using it as your main weapon against grounded Tiekuus: although it deals low damage, Unify Naginata's spinning attack blocks every attack a Tiekuu can use, including the drill shot, allowing you to attack in complete safety.
Until Chewgi is unlocked as a secret character, Unify Naginata is only available for the Tiekuu found in 007-A.
Difficulty Changes[]
On Very Easy, Easy, and Normal, Tiekuus rarely attack while other enemies are present in battle, and they can be ignored until they're the only enemy left. On Hard and 101% Hard, Tiekuus freely attack at all times, meaning you now have to avoid their attacks while fighting other enemies.
Gameplay (Vehicle Missions)[]

In 006-B's shmup Mission
Tiekuus are encountered in large numbers as cannon fodder enemies during Operation 006-B and 009-A's shmup-style Missions. Tiekuus have little health and never appear from behind, making them the easiest enemies to kill during these Missions. After being onscreen for a few moments they start shooting bullets at you, so you should try to kill them as quickly as possible whenever they appear to avoid having to deal with their bullets.
Collectibles[]
GEATHJERK File No.009[]

- Location: Operation 003-B
The Tiekuu GEATHJERK File is one of the four Underground Items located on top of the Envan during Mission 005. Specifically, on the bottom right side.
Note that all four Underground Items are only obtainable before breaking apart the Envan by striking its weak points.
001-B Cannon[]

Similar to Enemy Weapons, the Tiekuu encountered during Operation 001-B leaves behind its cannon when destroyed. By circling the cannon using the Wonder-Liner you can pick up and carry it with 4 team members, causing it to reactivate and automatically fire at any nearby enemies, dealing extremely large amounts of damage to anything it hits.
The cannon takes damage each time it fires, and will start smoking and sparking as its health decreases. The cannon also takes damage every time it's thrown or dropped until it's eventually destroyed.

If the Tiekuu cannon is carried during Mission 007, the Mission will actually keep going beyond the first pair of Diedough-Goos: more waves of Diedough-Goos will appear as you travel through the city with the cannon, ending in a confrontation against a single Dahkarts, all of which will not otherwise appear if the cannon is not carried during the Mission.
The Tiekuu cannon can only be used during Mission 006 and 007 and does not appear anywhere else in the game. The cannon is automatically destroyed after completing Mission 007.

Trivia[]
- The name Tiekuu is derived from "対空 (taikū)", the Japanese word for anti-aircraft. [1]
- Tiekuus possess a speed stat of 0, implying immobility, despite clearly being capable of movement and even aerial combat. They share this trait with Notoriyeahs.
