We WILL use force!
Taunting in The Wonderful 101 is a hidden game mechanic that can allow you to power up your team leader for a short time. There are no in-game tutorials for taunting, nor is taunting shown on any in-game control layout.
To taunt, hold the Attack button and the Team Attack button at the same time while near and facing an enemy to have your team leader point and shout at them. In the Wii U version of the game you can also taunt by clicking and holding the left stick (this option was removed in the Remaster.) In the PC version of the Remaster you can also taunt by holding the Z key.
Completing a taunt creates a flash of light around your team leader and surround them with a sparkling effect for the duration of the taunt effect. Interrupting the taunt before the flash of light occurs will result in no effect. The effects of taunting also does not carry over if you switch team leaders.
Taunting has two effects:
- While under the effects of taunting you deal about 1/3 more damage than usual.
- Taunting allows you to more quickly activate Unite Camp: Unite Camp is normally activated by holding the Dash/Join Up button, which takes around 4 seconds of waiting making it very difficult to use in the middle of a fight. To activate Unite Camp much faster, you can mash the Dash/Join Up button while under the effects of a taunt, which will create Unite Camp in less than a second. This combination of taunting and using Unite Camp can allow you to quickly regain Unite Energy in more difficult battles.
Taunt Quotes[]
As expected, taunting an enemy will make your team leader shout out something in combat. Every Minor Wonderful One just shouts "Hey!" or some other quick shout, but every main Wonderful One and Secret Wonderful One has a unique quote to say:
- Wonder-Red/Wonder-Daddy: "We WILL use force!"
- Wonder-Blue: "Let's rock, dudes and dudettes!"
- Wonder-Green: "Je suis incroyable!" (French for "I'm incredible!")
- Wonder-Pink: "Time to whip you and hit the showers!" (normal), "Me first, me first!" (when fighting Prince Vorkken)
- Wonder-Yellow: "Yellow HATE alien!"
- Wonder-White: "Wonderful-Ryu is unstoppable!"
- Wonder-Black: "Busy now!"
- Prince Vorkken: "You're a nuisance!"
- Chewgi: "I plead with you to surrender!"
- Immorta: "Time to face justice!"
- Wonder-Red (Emeritus)/Wonder-Captain: "Surrender your arms!"
- Wonder-Goggles/Wonder-Future: "I will defend Earth to the DEATH!"
- Wonder-Scarf: "Alien go home."
- Wonder-Gramps: "Halt, ya doggone invader!"
- Poseman: "Let's Rock!"
- Instead of pointing, Poseman strikes a pose identical to Viewtiful Joe's boss power up pose.
- Wonder-Director: "Ask your mom!", "俺ディレクタだよ (Ore direkutada yo)" (Japanese for "I'm the director")
- Wonder-Rodin: "Don't disrespect me."
- Wonder-Jeanne: "You're worthless!"
- Wonder-Bayonetta: "You want to touch me?"
When fought as an enemy, Prince Vorkken also has multiple random taunts. These appear to have no effect on the battle:
- "Join the Guyzoch!"
- "Blunderful pain in the bottom!"
- "Come and get me, Blunderful One!"
- "Dying is a terrible thing!"
- "Hahahahahah!"
Additionally, other members of the Guyzoch, Platinum Robo, and hijacked Gah-Goojins are all also able to taunt, however they don't say anything when doing so.
