Platinum Coins are special items in The Wonderful 101 that can be collected to receive rare items.
5 Platinum Coins are hidden in almost every non-boss level in The Wonderful 101, and upon finding the last one you'll receive a rare item as a reward. Collected Platinum Coins reset after a level is exited, and they can be collected again every time a level is replayed to receive another item. The item you're rewarded with varies from level to level, but is always the same for each level.

- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found by inserting the Wonder-Liner into the right open window on the building just before the final Mission area.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Super Wonderful Noodle Soup To Go as your reward.

- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found by using the Wonder-Liner to circle the scenery underneath the Tiekuu fought during Mission 006 (this can be done before or after destroying the Tiekuu.)
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin can be found high up on the side of the green building near the end of the long road Mission 007 takes place on. It's almost entirely out of sight when standing on the road, making it very easy to miss.
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found inside the Unite Gun Box near the end of the level, just outside of Blossom Stadium.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Wonderful Steak as your reward.

- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found by inserting the Wonder-Liner into the left open window up the side of the building just before the end of the level. Note that extending the Wonder-Liner too quickly up the side of the building may result in accidentally forming a Unite Chain up the building instead. To avoid this, simply extend the Wonder-Liner slowly.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Thunder Victory Torpedo as your reward.
Operation 003-A[]
- No.001
Just after entering the first shuttle at the start of the level, the first Platinum Coin can be found offscreen to the left, past the broken path. It can be collected by extending the Wonder-Liner toward it.
- No.002
After exiting back out to the exterior of the first shuttle, the second Platinum Coin is located at the back of the shuttle's wing, on the edge of the largest flap.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found by regenerating the Flower Bed found in the Mission 005 area, after the casino.
- No.004
After striking a hole through the floor of the casino in the second shuttle, the fourth Platinum Coin can be found floating in the air on your way down to the third shuttle.
To help make sure you get it, you can slow down and control your descent by switching to and attacking using a Unite Morph while falling. Unite Claw is perfect for doing this, but if you don't have it yet, Unite Whip works just as well. Just don't use Unite Sword, as the final hit of its combo sends you to the ground.
The game will auto-save once you land on the third shuttle, so if you miss the Platinum Coin while falling, select the RETRY option from the pause menu immediately if you want to get it.
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found on the left side of the poison gas maze.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Wonderful Dummy as your reward.
Operation 003-B[]
- No.001
The first Platinum Coin can be found on the exterior of the shuttle at the start of the level.
- No.002
After completing Mission 002 and landing back on the upside down shuttle, before going inside by striking a hole through the floor, quickly continue to the right where you'll come across a hand crank that can be turned to release a burning engine, revealing the second Platinum Coin underneath.
If you take too long outside of the shuttle, it will eventually right itself and force you to fall off, costing you health and respawning you at the moment after landing on the shuttle. There's no active Mission however, so this is only a minor risk.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found near the end of the collapsing section of the rotating tunnel during Mission 004. The easiest way to collect it is to extend the Wonder-Liner directly down the tunnel as you travel through, allowing you to collect the coin from afar. It can also barely be reached from the edge of the end platform by extending the Wonder-Liner offscreen back down the tunnel.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin is one of the four Underground Items located on top of the Envan during Mission 005. Specifically, on the bottom left side.
Note that all four Underground Items are only obtainable before breaking apart the Envan by striking its weak points.
- No.005
After completing Mission 005, before going inside the shuttle, go down toward the bottom of the screen and around the fires to find the fifth and final Platinum Coin on top of the shuttle's wing.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Fire Victory Torpedo as your reward.
Operation 004-A[]
- No.001
The first Platinum Coin can be found high up in the air above the third floating platform after Mission 001. To reach it, you must use Unite Hammer or Unite Tombstone to weigh the platform down, which will cause it to spring up and launch you into the air after you cancel the Unite Morph.
Note: Only a Size 100 Unite Morph will weigh the platform down enough to launch you directly into the Platinum Coin with no further input, however it can still be reached using a Size 50 Unite Morph if you jump at the right moment as the platform ascends to preserve your momentum.
- No.002
After crossing the gap using Unite Whip, the second Platinum Coin is an Underground Item located on the first row of plants.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found inside the Unite Claw Box in front of the first set of warp pipes in the level.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin can be found be inserting the Wonder-Liner into an open door on the platform after Mission 008 (the area where you flush away a battery of Hoedowns by activating a water flow.)
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found by using the Wonder-Liner to circle the pattern on the floor in front of the door lock in the Subscreen area at the end of the level.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Shocking Red as your reward.
Operation 004-B[]
- No.001
The first Platinum Coin can be found inside the Wonderful Toilet located in the outdoor part of the level.
- No.002
First, enter the underwater side of the outdoor part of the level using the hidden warp pipe found by jumping off the bottom corner of the Mission 002 area (the first encounter with an Ankho.)
From there, go up and hug the wall while staying underwater to find an open window, which you can insert the Wonder-Liner into to find the second Platinum Coin.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found inside a Unite Whip Box located under the water surrounding the Mission 004 area (the first deep sea sector Mission,) on the bottom left side of the room.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin can be found on top of a submarine in the water surrounding the Mission 005 area (where you meet up with Wonder-Blue,) next to the main path.
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin is an Underground Item located at the start of the final area of the level.

Operation 005-A[]
- No.001
The first Platinum Coin is on the pillar of ground halfway through the wooden cable car ride.
- No.002
Just after Mission 003 (the first encounter with Koh-Tumeekey), you may notice the path has a damaged section of railing on one side: if you approach it the camera will focus on some stranded citizens on an island across the gap. While you may be tempted to just jump the gap or recruit them from afar, specifically using Unite Chain to bridge the gap will trigger the second Platinum Coin to appear on the island.
- No.003
Halfway through the rising and falling lava section, the third Platinum Coin will be awarded to you if you use Unite Build to repair the damaged shrine next to the path.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin can be found on the drill statue located along the path after Mission 004.

If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Super Wonderful Noodle Soup To Go as your reward.
Operation 005-B[]
- No.001
Right at the beginning of the level, follow the side path to the upper left and enter the statue's mouth. This will take you to an isolated island with some citizens worshiping something offscreen to the bottom left: a hint that you can form Unite Chain here to bridge the gap and reach a second island with a damaged shrine on it, which you can repair using Unite Build to reveal the first Platinum Coin.
- No.002
The second Platinum Coin can be found next to the lava geyser blocking your path through the level. It can only be obtained after completing Mission 001 to cool to lava.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found during Mission 005's Gah-Goojin chase sequence, on top of the second pillar.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin is an Underground Item located on top of the orb pedestal at the beginning of the path to find the missing statue. It can be obtained before or after moving the orb, and before or after retrieving the statue.
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum coin can be found on the wall in the moving fire traps area near the end of the path to find the missing statue. Note that this Platinum Coin must be obtained before placing the orb into its pedestal nearby, as doing so will make the Platinum Coin disappear.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Wonderful Steak as your reward.

Operation 008-B[]
- No.001
The first Platinum Coin can be found in the out of control Ferris wheel at the start of the level. To help make sure you get it, after slowing it using Unite Bomb slowly extend the Wonder-Liner into the Ferris wheel's entrance so that only a few team members enter each car at a time, until a team member finally enters the car with the Platinum Coin in it.
Because the Ferris wheel spins so much faster than it did in Operation 002-B (even after being slowed) obtaining the Platinum Coin may take multiple attempts and a lot of luck, as even when extending the Wonder-Liner as slowly as possible into it you're likely to skip over the car that has the coin multiple times until you finally get it. Stopping the Ferris wheel when the Platinum Coin car is at the Ferris wheel's entrance seems to help.
In the Wii U version of the game only, the Ferris wheel does not deal damage or knock you away, meaning you can simply stand under it as it spins to easily collect all of its items.
Also note that you have to avoid entering the Ferris wheel yourself until you obtain the coin (which you will do so automatically if you approach the steps of the Ferris wheel while it's slowed,) as after being launched to next part of the level you can't return here. Members who have already rode the Ferris wheel become temporarily unavailable, but they eventually return if you wait.
- No.002
After dropping down from Blossom Stadium, the second Platinum Coin can be found by inserting the Wonder-Liner into a hole on the climbable wall being barraged with missiles.
- No.003
The third Platinum Coin can be found at the top of the last floating wall (where the Diedough-Goo spawns) in the climbing section.
- No.004
The fourth Platinum Coin is an Underground Item located on top of the Maglev on the path after Mission 005.
- No.005
The fifth and final Platinum Coin can be found inside a Unite Gun Box on the Mission 006 platform.
If you've collected every Platinum Coin in the level, you'll receive a Shocking Red as your reward.

Platinum Coin Duplication[]
Due to a recurring Glitch, it's possible to duplicate Platinum Coins within certain levels, allowing you to collect more than the intended 5:
Explanation[]
For unknown reasons, any time a level is loaded, such as by selecting the RETRY option from the pause menu after reaching an auto-save or by entering and exiting a Kahkoo-regah, items that are hidden via Wonder-Circles (not including Flower Beds) are reset and become collectible again, even if they were already collected in the current playthrough of the level. As some Platinum Coins are hidden via Wonder-Circles, this makes it possible to duplicate Platinum Coins.
This glitch also exposes the mechanics of how Platinum Coins actually work:
The game starts trying to give you an item any time you have at least 5 Platinum Coins, and being given an item deducts 5 coins from your total, rather than setting it to 0. Additionally, the game is only capable of giving you an item once each time a level is loaded: if you're able to collect another 5 Platinum Coins after already being given an item and without reloading the level, the game can't give you another item nor will it deduct your coins until the level is reloaded, allowing you to exceed the coin counter. When duplicating Platinum Coins in this manner, the counter will max out at 100. If a level is reloaded while you have 5 or more Platinum Coins, you'll immediately be given one item and have 5 coins deducted from whatever your total may be.
Additionally, when exiting a level and returning to the Operation Select menu, the game doesn't actually reset your Platinum Coin total to 0, it merely deducts 5 from it, and your coin total is saved between levels. What this means is that if you have 6 or more Platinum Coins in one level and then enter a new level, you'll keep all your excess coins, making it possible to have extra Platinum Coins in any level of the game.
While this trick lets you take Platinum Coins into a level that they cannot normally be obtained in, such as a boss level, doing so will not give you an item, and you'll still have 5 deducted from your total when you enter. The sole exception is Operation 009-C, which for some reason awards you a Wonderful Parfait, like the previous level.
Performing the Glitch[]
Due to the unique design of the level, Operation 008-A is the best level to use for this glitch:
Rather than loading the entire level at once, each floating platform that makes up the level unloads once you've traveled far enough away from it, and loads back in if you backtrack to it. This means that areas of the level can be reset, making their Wonder-Circle items collectible again, just by running back and forth between load triggers.
Using this technique, the second Platinum Coin is reset each time you travel to and stand on the rotating Maglev tube, and the fifth Platinum Coin is reset each time you backtrack to and stand on the Mission 006 platform (the faster of the two options,) allowing you to dupe infinite Platinum Coins extremely quickly and without reloading the entire level.
Operation 008-A is also the only level that allows you to dupe Platinum Coins without reloading the entire level, allowing you exceed the coin counter's expected limit of 5 and allowing you to carry Platinum Coins into any other level in the game.
Other levels with Platinum Coins hidden via Wonder-Circles, and whether or not they can be duplicated, are as follows:
- Operation 001-B: The third Platinum Coin, located in the Mission 006 area, can be duplicated as least once by traversing all the way back to the Kahkoo-regah after completing Mission 006 so that it can be used to reload the level. While this setup would make it possible to collect the coin an infinite number of times, entering the Kahkoo-regah after completing Mission 006 was not intended to be possible, and produces another glitch that causes Mission 006 to start again in a bugged state, which also causes the Kahkoo-regah to disappear for the remainder of the level, limiting you to one duplication.
- Operation 002-A: By abusing nearby checkpoints, the first and third Platinum Coins can each be collected three times, for 4 extra Platinum Coins in total.
- Operation 002-B: The third Platinum Coin can be collected an infinite number of times by entering and exiting the level's Kahkoo-regah to reset it.
- Operation 004-A: The fifth Platinum Coin is hidden via Wonder-Circle, however there are no checkpoints after reaching it, making it impossible to dupe.

Trivia[]
- In case it really needed to be said, Platinum Coins are a reference to PlatinumGames, the creators of The Wonderful 101. Their logo and full company name, PlatinumGames Inc., is stamped on the coins.
- The face of a Platinum Coin is the side inlaid with purple diamonds.
- Platinum Coins have the distinction of being one of the only completely optional systems in The Wonderful 101: although they are useful to obtain, there are no Platinum Coin-exclusive rewards, no Bottle-Cap for collecting them, nor does the game permanently track the collection of Platinum Coins themselves in any way other than creating an entry for them in the item list after one is collected for the first time.
- Obtaining all Platinum Coins in Operation 004-B or Operation 009-B is the only way to obtain a Wonderful Parfait other than using the Mixer menu or purchasing one from the Wonderful Mart. With the exception of the Mixer-exclusive Wonderful Cards, Wonderful Parfaits are the only type of item that can't be found in any level directly.
- There are 8 different items given as Platinum Coin rewards, and they are given out in the same order twice in all 16 levels that Platinum Coins can be obtained in.
