"Puh-ping! Useless information! Bzzzt!"
― Wonder-Blue teasing P-Star, Operation 002-A
P-Star is an autonomous robot created to support the Wonderful Ones during their missions, providing instructions, tactical analyses, and even additional Unite Morph data to the team.
P-Star is met at the start of the game in the Prologue, and accompanies the Wonderful Ones at all times for the remainder of the game.
P-Star also reappears as a major supporting character in The Wonderful One: After School Hero, to conduct Luka's training to become a Wonderful One.
Wonderful File[]
An autonomous information-terminal robot with learning-type AI, designed by Professor Shirogane.
Equipped with an unfinished experimental P-Fieldcraft, making P-Star capable of traveling freely through the air. Accompanying the Wonderful 100 throughout their missions, P-Star provides aids in all situations: relaying messages from HQ, performing checks on each member's condition, assisting in searches, scanning battle power, analyzing terrain, devising progression paths and combat strategies, etc.
Through linking with the database of the CENTINELS' central computer, Mother Platinum, P-Star can perform a data search to provide speedy advice to the Wonderful Ones on demand. Well, at least it should, but Mother Platinum seems to reflect the thought patterns of one of its designers, Professor Shirogane, and sometimes offers less-than-helpful advice.
P-Star was designed to have few if any combat functions, allowing it to focus on support and excel in expandability, including extensive bubble memory for multiple Unite Morph installations. It also has a spice-bomb disrupter and BB guns, but its performance in combat should not be relied on.
P-Star was made from a scrapped video-game console, an ode to Professor Shirogane's appreciation of antiques. It is also a gifted conversationalist, able to have intelligent conversations with humans. These conversations have led the team to think P-Star is adorable, and it has achieved mascot-like status.
Description[]
Appearance[]
P-Star is a small floating robot consisting of a round central body resembling a CRT television, and two small arms. P-Star's body is gloss white with red accents and a dark underside. P-Star's "face" consists of a round, monochrome green television screen with thick scanlines taking up most of the front of its body, that always displays two asymmetrical dots representing eyes. A notch in the top of P-Star's screen has a PlatinumGames logo, and above the screen are a pair of antennas. At either side of P-Star are two wing-like panels that flap open toward the front, which are almost always open to reveal P-Star's arms. P-Star's disc-shaped underside is actually a built-in stand, although it's never used in-game.
P-Star was constructed out of a video-game console, and this is reflected in its design: P-star's arms consist of forearms made from game controllers, attached to the body via short hoses and with three fingers for hands. Visible on P-Star's back are what appear to be video outputs, which clearly include stereo composite RCA connectors, a blue SCART or JP-21 connector, another unknown connector, and a label that reads "PVC-006." Higher up on P-Star's back is a cartridge slot with a puck-shaped cartridge inserted.
P-Star's speech consists of electronic beeping and buzzing sounds, which other characters interpret as regular speech. When P-Star speaks and emotes, its eyes flicker back and forth or change in expression.
Abilities[]
As a support unit, P-Star possesses the ability to cast holographic projections to guide the Wonderful Ones on missions. Because the Bubble Memory Cartridges providing additional Unite Morph data are installed into P-Star, proximity to P-Star seems to be necessary for Wonderful Ones to perform Unite Morphs other than the one installed in their CENTINEL-Suits.
Despite being designed purely as a support device, P-Star does have limited combat abilities: These come in the form of BB guns, spice bombs, and a self-defense capture ball: a small projected force field capable of briefly immobilizing enemies. Despite all odds, P-Star's combat abilities become a critical advantage during the events of Operation 007-B.
Personality and traits[]
As a robot designed to provide support to the Wonderful Ones, P-Star is extremely helpful toward others and is always ready to alert the team to danger and to provide tactical support. However, despite P-Star's undeniable usefulness, it also has a tendency to provide unnecessary or insufficient information to the team, whether by P-Star's own inability or due to lacking complete information to relay, which often results in Wonderful Ones teasing P-Star.
More of P-Star's conversationalist side is shown during The Wonderful One: After School Hero in its interactions with Luka during his training. In a more casual setting, P-Star's helpful nature extends to taking interest in the personal lives of others and offering advice, and P-Star isn't above making snide remarks at times.
Gameplay[]
P-Star's primary role during normal gameplay is to help you progress through levels by projecting holographic waypoints onto the surroundings, either to guide you to new areas or to suggest the use of a Unite Morph required to progress. During the first playthrough of the game, P-Star also provides additional one-time tutorials on certain mechanics.
Once the Treasure Sensor upgrade is purchased from the Wonderful Mart, P-Star gains the ability to detect nearby Underground Items that can be collected using Unite Hammer. When an Underground Item is near, P-Star will start to ping with increasing frequency the closer you get to the item. The Treasure Sensor's function is often the only source of hints for finding Underground Items.
P-Star only gets the chance to be directly controlled during Operation 007-B, where the micronized Wonderful Ones must ride on top of P-Star to battle the Vaaiki infecting Prince Vorkken's body.

Trivia[]
- P-Star is named after the PlatinumGames logo, which is even included in its design.
- Some of P-Star's electronic speech sound effects are reused sound effects from the first Viewtiful Joe game, with the most unmistakable example being the sounds made by the remote control platform found in Episode 3.
- The puck-shaped cartridge inserted in P-Star's back creates a resemblance to the handle on a Nintendo GameCube.
