Operation 009-A is the first part of Operation 009 Exoatmosphere and the twenty-fifth level of The Wonderful 101's story mode.
Recapping the end of 008-C, Mother Platinum has been completely destroyed, the CENTINELS have lost control of the Shirogane Comet, and Margarita has fallen: the Earth is completely exposed to the full force of the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada.
Despite Luka's despair, the Wonderful Ones aren't so easily discouraged, and they ready themselves to destroy all 61 billion GEATHJERK vessels by hand, until the Platinum Robo reminds everyone that the Shirogane Comet should still be operational: if they can reach it, they can fire it manually.

Trivia[]
- The gameplay of Mission 001 is a faithful recreation of the gameplay of Space Harrier, an arcade game developed by Sega (and a notable favorite game of Hideki Kamiya, the director of The Wonderful 101.) The Mission also includes gameplay elements from Galaxy Force, another arcade game by Sega.
- Wonder-Red's line "Platinum Robo, Get Ready!" at the start of the Mission is a reference to the "Get Ready!" voice line that plays at the start of each Space Harrier game/life.
- Wonder-Blue's line "You're doing great!" if you complete the Mission with a good score is a reference to the same line that plays after completing each stage of Space Harrier.
- Various enemies from the game fill the role of Space Harrier's enemies and bosses, with notable examples being:
- Kaizor Diejeahs are fought like Space Harrier's Squilla boss.
- Gunchew is a unique enemy based on Space Harrier's Ida boss.
- Giga-Goojins are fought like Space Harrier's Dom boss/enemies.
- The gameplay of Mission 002, the Platinum Robo shoot 'em up Mission on the Shirogane Comet, is modeled after the gameplay of Zaxxon, an isometric shoot 'em up game developed by Sega. Zaxxon is notable as being the first video game to employ an isometric perspective.
- Operation 009-A is the shortest level in the game, at only 3 Missions, and features very little normal gameplay. As a result, this level has several oddities compared to other levels in the game:
- It is the only non-boss level without Secret Missions and a Kahkoo-regah.
- It is one of the only two non-boss levels in the story where no Minor Wonderful Ones can be found. The other is Operation 007-A.
- It is one of only two levels where it's completely impossible to obtain citizen or enemy recruits in any form. The other is Operation 006-C.
- It is the only normal level without Platinum Coins.
- It is the only normal level without a Hero Heart Fragment.
- Despite having Wonderful Batteries, it's the only level in the entire game where it's impossible to increase the Unite Gauge, as there are only 18 Batteries on top of the Envan, just short of the 20 required to unlock a new unit.
