Vorkken Book

Megangs are turtle-like space beasts used by the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada. Because of their incredibly dense shells, Megangs are completely unaffected by almost all forms of attack, and despite their sluggish movements they're extremely aggressive, and capable of stretching their necks to reach enemies with fast biting attacks, or stomping the ground to cause fiery eruptions around them.

First encountered in Operation 003-A shortly after Wonder-Yellow joins the team, Megangs are often considered to be one of the most difficult enemies in the game to fight: this is because their shells break every weapon except for Unite Hammer on contact, and because they almost always appear in pairs that defend each other using long range attacks.
Megangs also possess the surprising ability to fly at high speeds, allowing them to appear in some vehicle missions.

GEATHJERK File[]

A humongous turtle-like space creature wrapped in a thick armor shell.

Far more ferocious than its squat, stubby appearance belies, it will viciously attack anything that comes within its reach. Most of its movements are slow and measured, which makes its lightning-quick head-butt maneuver that much more surprising. Should it encounter a fast-moving enemy, it can fire out the five talons it keeps stowed in its underbelly like throwing stars. Furthermore, on the ground it shows amazing agility, making it surprisingly difficult to pin down.

Its armor is several times harder than diamond, meaning that even anti-tank weapons can't scratch it. Also, this armor is electrified, capable of shooting tens of thousands of volts into any creature unlucky enough to come into contact.

With awesome offensive and defensive capabilities, Megangs have evolved free from natural predators, as there are no other creatures that can come close to the supremacy it holds over its natural habitat; however, the Megang does have a weakness: its tail. Pulling a Megang's tail will stop it dead in its tracks.

Description[]

Megang flying

Megangs flying in their shells

Megangs resemble gigantic turtles with thick, metallic green shells in the shape of a perfect half-sphere. When a Megang emerges from its shell, sections of its shell detach and become armor plating on their heads and feet, while their fleshy purple legs and necks become exposed in the openings of their shell. Megangs also have small, hook-shaped tails. Like other space beasts, Megangs possess rows of flashing red dots on their face for eyes.

The underside of a Megang lacks any sort of armor, and instead conceals a bright red, button-like organ surrounded by six fleshy talons. These talons can extend out from the underside of a Megang and spin at high speeds, which can either be used as an attack, or to allow the Megang to fly.

Megang underside

A Megang's shell is incredibly dense, rendering it completely immune to almost all forms of attack, and even the exposed parts of their limbs somehow resist damage as well. Because of this, the only thing that can harm a Megang's through its shell is Unite Hammer, but they can also be damaged by tipping them on their sides or flipping them over to expose the bright red organ on their underside, which functions as the creature's weak point.

Megang shell damage

Shell damage states. Once fully destroyed, Megangs can be attacked using any weapon.

Regardless of how it's attacked, a Megang's shell will crack at 5/6 health, then break apart at 4/6 health, until finally becoming completely broken at half health, exposing a second bright red organ on its back that allows it to take damage at any time from any weapon.
Although a Megang's health usually indicates how close its shell is to breaking, some attacks like Wonder-Liner throws can actually damage a Megang without breaking its shell.

Megangs are commonly found in pairs, and possess the ability to join together into a perfect sphere, although this is only ever seen in their intro cutscene.

Although Unite Hammer is their weakness, the most effective way of fighting a Megang is actually to bait out and block its stomp attack so that it can be flipped over and attacked using any weapon. While fighting them like this, the best weapon to use is Unite Hand, as it protects you from their fiery eruption attacks.

Megangs have very predictable behavior and almost always use their stomp attack if you stand right next to them. If you're outside of melee range a Megang will instead use its eruption attacks, or potentially its biting attack if you're also in front of it.
After losing their shells, Megangs can start using their chain eruption attack. Megangs also try to bite the area above their shell if you jump over them, but this is easily avoided if you just stay on the ground. Rarely, Megangs can also perform a flying attack at low health.

Most of the difficulty in fighting Megangs comes from the fact that they almost always appear in pairs: focusing too much on one Megang will result in being hit by the other's eruption and biting attacks, and it can be difficult to attack one Megang without hitting the other's shell if they're too close together.

The best strategy is to try and keep them stunned at the same time: Megangs usually spawn right next to each other, so at the start of a fight quickly position yourself between them to make them stomp at the same time. Block their stomps to knock them both off-balance, attack them until they're each flipped upside down, then focus on damaging one at a time. When they recover from their stun, try to repeat this process.

If you can't stun them at the same time, you should instead focus on blocking and damaging one Megang, while staying away from the other one and closely watching its attacks: if you stay next to the Megang you're trying to damage, it will only ever stomp, making it easy to react to, so you should pay more attention to what the other Megang is doing and quickly dodge away when you see it using its biting or eruption attacks. If you're using Unite Hand, you can ignore the eruption attack unless you need to block a stomp using Unite Guts.

Notably, Unite Whip has a unique interaction with Megangs: hitting them with Unite Whip after their shell is broken will pull their tails and very briefly stun them, which can be used to interrupt attacks. However, as pulling their tail doesn't deal damage, this makes Unite Whip generally useless against Megangs unless you use Skills to deal damage instead.

Finally, if your Unite Morph hits a Megang's shell, there's a very brief delay before your Unite Morph breaks where it's still possible to safely put it away. Putting away your Unite Morph before it breaks like this is an advanced technique that's worth practicing, as this applies to hitting any other armored enemy or surface capable of breaking a Unite Morph.

Unite Drill Spring will break on contact with a Megang's shell and stun the entire team, so it's recommended to disable Unite Drill Spring in the UNITE MORPHS list in the FILES section of the pause menu before fighting Megangs.

GEATHJERK File No.019[]

GFile 019 Megang location

The Megang GEATHJERK File can be found by inserting the Wonder-Liner into an open doorway near the start of the level, next to a Gatcha.

Enemy Weapon[]

Megang enemy weapon

When killed using the correct Unite Morph, a Megang will drop its Enemy Weapon: the Megang Blades.

Megang Blades are 3 charge Enemy Weapons that spin rapidly when used, which if done in place simply spins it overhead, or you can also spin it in front of you while moving slowly, making it similar to Unify Naginata. Megang Blades are fast, cover a wide area, and deal a decent amount of damage per attack, making them worth using against most enemies when available.
Due to their extremely large size, Megang Blades can be awkward to carry through certain areas. In these situations, Unite Ball can be used to move more easily while holding an Enemy Weapon.

Note that, while similar to Unify Naginata, a Megang Blades' attack has no defensive properties whatsoever, and it provides no protection from overhead attacks or piercing drill attacks.

As a sharp weapon, Megang Blades can be used to attack a Nyerk.

Trivia[]

  • The name Megang is derived from an anagram of "亀 (kame)", the Japanese word for turtle,[1] and it may also be a portmanteau of "丸 (gan)", the Japanese word for round.[2]
  • Erroneously, the Megang's GEATHJERK File mentions the "five talons it keeps stowed in its underbelly" when they actually have six talons.
