I could have sworn that the guidebook says...

The Gunchew is a Moai like ship.
GEATHJERK File[]
An unmanned fighter craft designed for space combat.
Developed for strength in numbers rather than sheer power, the idea was to make them as lightweight and compact as possible so as to cram as many as possible into carriers.
Completely lacking any shielding whatsoever, and armed with but a single pulse laser cannon, a Gunchew is almost strategically useless on its own. When paired with several million other units, however, they pose a formidable threat to almost any foe.
Gunchews usually travel in nine-unit teams led by a single commander unit that gives them orders to assume different formations depending on the situation.

GEATHJERK File No.034[]

Yes, this is the worst secret in the entire game.
- Location: Operation 009-C
Before doing anything at the start of this epic final boss level, look closely at the pattern of the floor on the next platform and slowly move forward until you're standing on roughly the second line of hexagon tiles, as close as possible to the trigger that causes the path behind you to break away. If you're standing in the right area, jumping directly up will cause a Unite Claw Box containing the Gunchew GEATHJERK File to appear on the path behind you.
Once you've obtained the file, remember to curse Hideki Kamiya for making you do all that for a one-time enemy's GEATHJERK File (this is a very important step.)

Trivia[]
- The Gunchew is directly based on the Ida boss from Space Harrier, an arcade game developed by Sega that served as the basis for Operation 009-A and 009-B's space shooter Missions (and a notable favorite game of Hideki Kamiya, the director of The Wonderful 101.)
- The name Gunchew may be derived from "顔 (gan)", the Japanese word for face, and "宙 (chuu)", the Japanese word for space. [1]
