The CUSTOM Menu
- DESCRIPTION
- A chip that enhances the abilities of a CENTINEL-Suit. Activated by inserting into the circuit board of the Shirogane Drive in the suit's chest.
Custom Blocks are special items that can be selected and equipped on the CUSTOM section of the pause menu to provide a wide variety of new abilities and effects in combat. Almost every Custom Block is purchased from the Wonderful Mart.
The number of Custom Blocks that can be equipped at the same time depends on your team's Total Rank, as new slots are unlocked as your Total Rank increases. At the maximum Total Rank of 460, up to 7 Custom Blocks can be equipped at once.

Unite Charge[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Press and hold the Unite Attack button to automatically up the size of Unite Morphs. (Depletes the Unite Gauge.)
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 800,000 O-Parts
Unite Charge allows you to increase the size of your currently selected Unite Morph by holding the Attack button, as opposed to redrawing it using the Wonder-Liner. 1 unit of Unite Energy is spent each time Unite Charge is used to increase the size of a Unite Morph, meaning it depletes more Unite Energy than efficient drawing, however, the convenience of not needing to use the Wonder-Liner every time you need a large Unite Morph makes up for it.
Although there are more powerful Custom Blocks to buy first, such as Speed Charge and Ukemi, Unite Charge should be one of the first Custom Blocks you consider once the essentials are out of the way.
Speed Charge[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Increases the recovery speed of the Unite Gauge
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 500,000 O-Parts
Speed Charge causes the Unite Gauge to recover over twice as quickly as it does by default. While the faster recovery speed isn't absolutely essential if you know of other ways to quickly restore Unite Energy in combat, such as making your idle team members attack enemies, Speed Charge is nonetheless an extremely useful Custom Block in any situation.
Speed Charge should be among the first Custom Blocks you prioritize obtaining, and there are few things worth replacing it with once equipped.
Double Power[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Amplifies the attack power of Unite Morphs, but depletes a great deal of the Unite Gauge.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 500,000 O-Parts (Wii U) 300,000 O-Parts (Remaster)
Double Power doubles the damage dealt by Unite Morph attacks, but in exchange the Wonder-Liner now requires twice as much Unite Energy to use. Double Power also doubles the amount of Unite Energy used by Unite Charge to 2 units per size increase instead of 1. When equipped, Double Power has the unique visual effect of creating an energy ring around the Team Leader.
The increased Unite Energy cost of your main abilities makes energy management extremely difficult with Double Power equipped, however, in situations where you need to deal damage as quickly as possible, such as Missions with strict Time requirements or Bosses with short vulnerability windows (that also leave you down time to recover Unite Energy in,) Double Power becomes extremely useful.
For this reason, although it's definitely helpful for certain Missions, you should avoid purchasing Double Power until other items that are useful in all situations have been purchased first.
Also note that Double Power only doubles the damage of Unite Morphs, and other attacks such as Justice Missiles or "backup attacks" aren't affected by the Custom Block.
Energy Converter[]
- DESCRIPTION
- When you recover more than the upper limit of your Vitality, applies the excess to your Unite Gauge. Likewise, when your Unite Gauge fills above its max, the excess is applied to the Vitality Gauge.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 100,000 O-Parts

Energy Converter in combination with Attack Liner...
Despite its low price and simple effect, Energy Converter is easily one of the most powerful Custom Blocks. With Energy Converter equipped, if Unite Energy is restored with a full Unite Gauge, any excess Unite Energy is converted into Vitality, and vice-versa: meaning that any source of Vitality or Unite Energy can be used to fill either Gauges.
The most powerful application of this Custom Block is to use the Unite Energy obtained from team member attacks (idle attacks, Attack Liner attacks) to restore your Vitality Gauge, making it extremely easy to restore Vitality in almost any battle. This Custom Block also allows you to use Wonderful Noodle Soups to restore Unite Energy and to use Wonderful Cakes to restore Vitality, either when used from the inventory or when collected in battle.
Since it's so cheap and extremely powerful, Energy Converter should one of if not the first Custom Block you purchase, and there are few things worth replacing it with once equipped.
Healing Guts[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Recovers vitality upon the completion of a successful Unite Guts, but decreases the speed by which the Unite Gauge refills by half.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After entering Operation 001-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 200,000 O-Parts
Healing Guts restores a small amount of Vitality (equivalent to half of a Small Wonderful Noodle Soup, or 1/32 of the largest Vitality Gauge) any time Unite Guts is used to block an attack. Despite the description, Healing Guts doesn't appear to have any effect on the Unite Gauge.
Because the amount healed is so small, Healing Guts is possibly the most useless Custom Block. A similar and much more powerful effect can be achieved by properly using Energy Converter instead. For this reason, it's recommended to only purchase Healing Guts for the Custom Blocker Bottle-Cap, and only after all other useful items have been purchased first.
Auto-Guts[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Automatically activates Unite Guts in response to enemy attacks. Greatly depletes your Unite Gauge.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After entering Operation 001-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 300,000 O-Parts
Auto-Guts automatically activates Unite Guts in response to enemy attacks. Activating Unite Guts in this way costs 2 Units of Unite Energy, which is twice as much as using Guts normally. Also, when Unite Guts is activated using this Custom Block, you do not earn the + 200PTS. combo bonus for blocking attacks, nor do you restore the 2 units of Unite Energy that you normally would from blocking an attack.
While Auto-Guts isn't completely useless, it can sometimes be unreliable for unknown reasons. And although it costs more Unite Gauge to use, the automatic defense provided by the Hero Sense Custom Block is a much more powerful effect than Auto-Guts, and can be used even in situations where Unite Morphing isn't possible, and thus should be used instead of Auto-Guts in situations where automatic defense is desired.
For these reasons, it's recommended to only purchase Auto-Guts for the Custom Blocker Bottle-Cap, and only after all other useful items have been purchased first.
Item Catcher[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Reflect an enemy attack with Unite Guts to make the enemy drop an item.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After entering Operation 001-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 200,000 O-Parts
Item Catcher causes enemies to drop various items upon successfully blocking their attacks using Unite Guts. The items dropped are different for each enemy, and each enemy can only drop an item once. There's also a limit to how many items can drop in a short window of time, but the exact limitations are difficult to ascertain. Enemies also don't drop their items in certain areas such as inside Kahkoo-regah Secret Missions.
Only blocking melee attacks that stun or stagger the enemy can make it drop an item, and only regular enemies or mini-bosses drop items, not level bosses. Enemies with blockable attacks, and the items they can drop, are as follows:
While Item Catcher definitely isn't an essential Custom Block, the Wonderful Cakes, Wonderful Noodle Soups, and Wonderful Batteries dropped by enemies can help you restore Vitality or Unite Energy in a pinch, and the extra Space Vegetables obtained from using Item Catcher add up quickly if you're going for the Mix Master Bottle-Cap. Since it's fairly cheap to buy, it's worth considering if you have an open custom slot available for it.
Dodge Mine[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Evade an enemy attack with Unite Spring to set a landmine energy bomb and damage any enemy foolish enough to touch it.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After entering Operation 001-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 400,000 O-Parts
Dodge Mine causes Unite Spring to leave an explosive landmine in your original position every time the Unite Morph is used. These landmines explode after a short amount of time, when you attack them, or when enemies approach them, dealing small amounts of damage to enemies. Despite the description, Using Unite Spring at any time will place a landmine, not just when you dodge an attack.
The extra damage from Dodge Mine is useful, especially for fast enemies that can be difficult to keep up with like Dooras, but the most notable use for Dodge Mine is to recruit Dough-Goos: Dodge Mine explosions are the most readily available and easy to use source of damage that can put Dough-Goos into a recruitable state. Only one or two landmines are necessary to kill a Dough-Goo depending on the Difficulty.
Although useful for providing small amounts of free damage, Dodge Mine should be considered more for its use in recruiting Dough-Goos. For this reason, Dodge Mine should be considered a low priority purchase, but, it's a very good idea to purchase it before Operation 007-A.
Hero Time[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Evade an attack with Unite Spring with just the right timing to cast slow motion on the immediate area around you.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After completing Operation 005-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 600,000 O-Parts
Hero Time allows you to trigger a time stop effect by dodging enemy attacks with Unite Spring with correct timing, leaving enemies open to attack until the effect is over.
Hero Time's applications are obvious: it lets you get an opening against hard to hit enemies like Dooras and helps you slow down more aggressive enemies like Ankhos, making combat much easier overall.
Hero Time's only downside is that the time stop effect can make battles take longer, and against enemies with long periods of invincibility or attacks that don't lead into an opening for you, such as Dahkarts or many Bosses, you might find that Hero Time just wastes time more than anything. Enemies are also still capable of reacting during the time stop (just very slowly), meaning that enemies such as Diedough-Goos or Dooras might start blocking in the time stop, forcing you to wait until the effect is over to attack them again.
Despite this minor weakness, Hero Time is overall a very powerful Custom Block, and is worth buying as soon as it's available.
Hero Counter[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Push toward the enemy in sync with their attack to reflect it back.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 600,000 O-Parts
Hero Counter gives you the ability to counter (or parry) enemy attacks by walking into an enemy as they attack, nullifying its damage and causing you to automatically perform a counter-attack using your Unite Morph at its largest possible size and at no Unite Energy cost, and earning a unique + 100PTS. Combo bonus in the process.
Hero Counter is extremely useful to protect yourself from damage and to allow you to quickly attack. The fact that it can be used to attack even when your Unite Gauge is empty makes it very useful in certain battles that can quickly deplete your Unite Gauge, or to offset the extra Unite Energy consumption of Double Power. Apart from sometimes being annoyingly easy to trigger by mistake, there's no downside to using Hero Counter. Hero Counter can only fail if there aren't enough team members available to form Unite Morphs at all.
Hero Counter is overall a very powerful Custom Block and should be among the first expensive Custom Blocks you consider buying.
Hero Sense[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Throws your surroundings into slow motion before incoming damage hits. Depletes a large amount of the Unite Gauge.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: After completing Operation 005-A
- Wonderful Mart Price: 900,000 O-Parts
Hero Sense automatically triggers a time stop effect identical to Hero Time any time you're about to take damage, depleting 3 units of Unite Energy in the process.
The substantial Unite Energy drain from Hero Sense makes it extremely unwise to leave it equipped at all times, made worse by the fact that Hero Sense has a tendency to trigger even when successfully dodging or blocking an attack, wasting Unite Energy.
Although its drawbacks seem to outweigh its benefits at first, Hero Sense is incredibly useful in certain situations, such as Missions where normal defenses like Unite Guts are unavailable, or Missions where avoiding damage is so difficult that it becomes worth prioritizing saving Unite Energy specifically to trigger Hero Sense. In some of the trickier Kahkoo-regah Secret Missions, Hero Sense can be the only difference between an easy victory or hours of frustration.
For these reasons, although it can be vital for some Missions, you should avoid purchasing Hero Sense until other items that are useful in all situations have been purchased first.
Safeguard[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Reduces incoming damage by half, but depletes the Unite Gauge by a large amount.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 500,000 O-Parts (Wii U) 300,000 O-Parts (Remaster)
Safeguard halves the damage you take in exchange for depleting 2 Units of Unite Energy any time you're attacked. If you lack sufficient Unite Energy, the Custom Block will have no effect and you'll take full damage.
Safeguard's effect is barely helpful, and it certainly isn't worth equipping instead of another Custom Block that could help you avoid damage in the first place such as Hero Sense (or even Auto-Guts,) or a Custom Block that could help you restore Vitality such as Energy Converter. Safeguard is possibly the most useless Custom Block.
For these reasons, it's recommended to only purchase Safeguard for the Custom Blocker Bottle-Cap, and only after all other useful items have been purchased first.
Ukemi[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Press the jump button just before taking lethal damage to nullify that damage.
- Wonderful Mart Availability: Game Start
- Wonderful Mart Price: 800,000 O-Parts
Above and beyond the most powerful Custom Block in the game, Ukemi gives you the ability to nullify almost any damage taken, not only helping you survive, but also allowing you to get hit in combat and still earn Platinum Damage Medals.
The in-game description of Ukemi may be confusing, so a more clear explanation of Ukemi is as follows:
Any time you take non-fatal damage (i.e. that doesn't outright kill you and cause a game over,) and your team leader is launched into the air, if you press the jump button the moment they land on the ground, they'll "catch" themselves and flip back onto their feet into a triumphant pose, restoring all damage from the attack that hit them.
It's also possible to execute Ukemi by pressing the jump button the moment you're hit, which is much easier to time (and does not require you to see your team leader land,) but this only works if you're hit while standing on the ground, whereas the above method works at all times.
The applications of Ukemi are obvious: not only is it useful to help in reducing damage taken, it also massively reduces frustration in Pure Platinum runs by allowing you to recover from some mistakes in combat, meaning you'll be resetting Missions far less often to earn Platinum Damage Medals.
Despite Ukemi's awesome power, it does carry numerous limitations:
- Attacks that cause you to respawn when hit (such as certain boss attacks or attacks that knock you out of bounds or into lava) give you no opportunity to use Ukemi.
- If you're somehow combo'd by an enemy, that is to say you take multiple distinct attacks one after another before you can react, Ukemi can only nullify the damage from the most recent attack.
- Damage taken is considered nullified specifically when the Ukemi animation reaches the "triumphant pose" part of the animation and your Vitality Gauge visually starts to refill (it doesn't need to visually finish refilling.) This means that if you interrupt the Ukemi animation, such as by drawing a new Unite Morph, the damage won't be nullified. Or, if you're hit moments before a Mission is completed and the Ukemi animation doesn't reach the pose before the Mission Results are displayed, the damage won't be nullified in time to count for the Mission Results. Furthermore, if you successfully start an Ukemi but the team leader ends up landing for the pose somewhere that will cause them to respawn (such as out of bounds or in lava) Ukemi will also fail.
- Ukemi is no use during the game's various vehicle missions.
- The ability to use Ukemi is specifically tied to the landing part of the standard "knocked into the air" hit animation, meaning that:
- Fatal damage gives you no opportunity to use Ukemi, as the death animation plays instead.
- Attacks that flatten the team leader give you no opportunity to use Ukemi, as the "unflatten" animation plays instead. This is arguably the most relevant limitation of Ukemi, as many enemies possess powerful attacks that flatten their victims.
- The team leader being knocked into a wall after an attack gives you no opportunity to use Ukemi, as the "peel off the wall" animation plays instead.
- The unique hit animation used only during the Operation 004-B Red Vs. Blue fight makes using Ukemi impossible.
- The unique hit animation used only during Operation 009-C's final phase makes using Ukemi impossible.
Despite having a literal list of limitations, Ukemi is nonetheless the most useful Custom Block in the entire game. For obvious reasons, Ukemi should be the first expensive item you prioritize buying, and buying Ukemi is the best use of the first Wonderful Card you create.
Full Automatic[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Normal attacks will be performed automatically. Designed for beginners.
*Using this Custom Block will lower your result rank by one tier.
Full Automatic automates certain parts of combat, primarily facing toward enemies and using Skills when attacking, and sometimes (not reliably) using Unite Guts in response to enemy attacks. The intended purpose of this Custom Block is to let new players pay less attention to the game's combat while they familiarize themselves with The Wonderful 101's controls and general gameplay.
Full Automatic also lowers your end of level Operation Results Award by one tier any time it is equipped in a level.
Though adequate for enhancing mindless button mashing, Full Automatic's behavior can be confusing and difficult to predict, and thus the Custom Block shouldn't be used anymore once you want to start learning how to properly fight enemies, as basically any level of conscious effort will prove more effective.

Full Auto equipped to an invisible Slot 05
Full Automatic is unique in that it's the only Custom Block that isn't purchased from the Wonderful Mart:
In the Wii U Version, Full Automatic is obtained for free by playing on Easy or Very Easy for the first time, and when first obtained it will also be automatically equipped into the first open Custom Slot, which can be a slot that has not actually been unlocked yet (which may cause some confusion if you've already played a higher difficulty first.)
In the Remastered Version, it's now given to you for free at the start of the game regardless of the selected Difficulty, and it will only be automatically equipped into Slot 01 if you select Easy or Very Easy the first time you start the game in a new save file.
Infinite Energy[]
- DESCRIPTION
- Grants you an infinite Unite Gauge.
*Using this Custom Block will lower your result rank by one tier. - Wonderful Mart Availability: After Completing Operation 101
- Wonderful Mart Price: 2,000,000 O-Parts
The ultimate Custom Block, Infinite Energy, is self explanatory: equipping this Custom Block gives you an infinite Unite Gauge, allowing you to create and use Unite Morphs without any Unite Energy limits.
This power comes at a cost, as using this Custom Block lowers your end of level Operation Results Award by one tier any time it is equipped in a level.
Infinite Energy is the "reward" for completing Operation 101, in that completing the Operation will allow you to purchase the Custom Block from the Wonderful Mart for a whopping 2,000,000 O-Parts, making it the most expensive item in the game.

Trivia[]
- Hero Time and Hero Sense are directly based on the Witch Time mechanic from the Bayonetta series
- Wonder-Jeanne and Wonder-Bayonetta's innate ability to activate Hero Time without needing the Custom Block equipped also references this fact.
- The Custom Block system itself is similar to the accessory system in the first Bayonetta game.
- Ukemi is an ability originating from the Viewtiful Joe series, a series of Tokusatsu-inspired video games created by Hideki Kamiya, which is commonly regarded as a spiritual predecessor to The Wonderful 101. In Viewtiful Joe, Ukemi can be used to nullify damage taken by using Zoom In when you hit the ground after taking damage. Unlike in The Wonderful 101, where there are no penalties to using Ukemi and the ability can nullify all damage taken, in Viewtiful Joe, Ukemi only restores one heart even when hit by an attack that deals multiple hearts of damage, and while using Ukemi still lets you earn a V-Rank on damage in a mission (V-Rank and Rainbow V-Ranks being the best possible ranks,) it disqualifies you from earning the no damage V-Point (currency) bonus.
- Poseman's innate ability to perform Ukemi without needing the Custom Block is an obvious reference to Viewtiful Joe, as is his Heroic Forever ability, which references the Viewtiful Forever ability.
- In Japanese martial arts, Ukemi (受け身, written as ウケミ in The Wonderful 101) is the art of correctly taking an attack so as to avoid injury.
