"Fantastic! Wonderful, man!"
― Commander Nelson congratulating you on your Award.
Awards are given to the player after completing any Mission or Operation in The Wonderful 101. Awards represent proof of your skill at playing the game, as the only way to receive a high tier Award is by playing the game to the best of your abilities. Not only that, but Awards also include an O-Parts bonus, meaning earning high tier Awards also gets you more money to spend on abilities and upgrades at the Wonderful Mart.
Awards can be viewed when selecting a previously completed level at the Operation Select screen, and every Award you've earned in a save file can be viewed in the Final Results screen after it has been unlocked by completing the game for the first time. Earning a Platinum or higher Award on every Operation in the game's story on at least one Difficulty is the objective of the Platinum Paragon Bottle-Cap.
Overview[]
Awards come in 6 possible tiers, ordered from best to worst: Pure Platinum, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Consolation Prize. Awards also include Medals and Tokens.
Every single Mission in the game (as well as boss levels, which are basically just a single whole-level Mission) keeps track of your Combo, Time, and Damage scores. The Time and Damage scores are self explanatory, however, the Combo score gets a little more complicated. For more information, see the Combo page.
Every Mission has specific requirements for each score type that must be reached or surpassed in order to earn a certain tier of Token for each score type at the Mission Results screen. The average tier of each Token is then used to determine the tier of Medal you'll receive to represent your completion of that Mission.
Similarly, at the end of every Operation, the average tier of every Medal you received on each Mission is used to determine the tier of Award you'll receive to represent your completion of the level.
However, there's one special tier with a specific, strict requirement: Pure Platinum Medals can only be obtained if all three Tokens received at the Mission Results screen are all Platinum, and a Pure Platinum Award can only be obtained if all Missions in the level —including all Secret Missions— have all been completed with a Pure Platinum Medal.
Earning Pure Platinum Awards is strictly optional, and the game never requires you to earn anything higher than Platinum for any reason. However, Pure Platinum Awards are indisputably the ultimate proof of your mastery over the game, and filling the Final Results screen with Pure Platinum Awards is the ultimate goal of any diehard Wonderful 101 player.
O-Parts Bonuses[]
In addition to representing your skill at playing the game, Awards also include an O-Parts bonus every time you receive one at the Mission and Operation Results screens, and they add up quickly. The following is a table of every possible bonus:
Bonus | Pure Platinum | Platinum | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Consolation Prize |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Mission | 10,000 | 5,000 | 2,000 | 1,000 | 500 | 100 |
Operation | 10,000 | 7,000 | 4,000 | 3,000 | 1,000 | 500 |
Award Penalties[]
It's also possible to receive Award penalties by using certain powerful items or by dying and getting a game over at any point in a level. These Award penalties are displayed at the Operation Results screen, and they have the effect of reducing the level Award's tier by one for each penalty.
Any combination of 5 penalties or more will have the effect of limiting your Award to a Consolation Prize, meaning, however unlikely, even a prestigious Pure Platinum Award could be reduced all the way down to a dinky plastic bottle-cap toy.
Using any of the following items incurs an Award penalty:
Additionally, there's also the Full Automatic and Infinite Energy Custom Blocks: if either of these Custom Blocks are equipped at any time during a Mission in the entire level, then your Operation Award will be reduced by one tier (or two, if you equipped both of them for some reason.) If happen you equip these Custom Blocks by accident, note that the penalty doesn't apply unless they're still equipped after the game is unpaused, so you can simply unequip them right away and you won't be penalized.
Unlike the item penalties, the penalties for using these custom blocks are not explicitly displayed on the Operation Results screen.
Final Result Screen[]
After completing the game for the first time, a new menu option called Final Result will appear on the Operation Select screen. The Final Result screen is a complete table of every Operation in the game's story on every Difficulty level. Every completed level will display its saved Award in its square, and highlighting a level's Award will display its total scores and every Medal earned in that level on the Subscreen.
Additionally, Operation 101's Award can also be viewed by pressing a button if it has been completed.
The first time a level is completed, its Award is automatically saved. Any time a level is replayed, when you reach the Operation Results screen you may be presented with the option to update your saved Award, replacing the previous Award with the new one you just earned. The game only offers you the choice to update your Award if at least one of the level's overall Combo score, Damage score, Time score, or the Award tier is an improvement over your previously saved records.
This choice defaults to NO, so if you're trying to improve your Awards, be very careful not to button mash through the Results screen!
Quotes[]
Mission Result Headlines[]
Every time a Mission is completed, your Mission Results are displayed as a front page newspaper article courtesy of the Wonderful Times Extra Edition (the finest American news source.) The newspaper's headline reads something different for every tier of Medal:
- Pure Platinum: "HEROES STAND STRONG!"
- Platinum: "UNPRECEDENTED HEROICS!"
- Gold: "OUR HEROES DO IT AGAIN!"
- Silver: "OUR HEROES ARE WONDERFUL!"
- Bronze: "CAN OUR HEROES SAVE THE DAY?"
- Consolation Prize: "WHERE ARE OUR REAL HEROES!?"
Award Quotes[]
In the Operation/Boss Results screen of almost every level, Commander Nelson will congratulate you on a job well done (...or not) when the overall level Award is revealed. Nelson has a different line for every tier of Award:
- Pure Platinum: "Fantastic! Wonderful, man!"
- Platinum: "Splendid!"
- Gold: "Well done, team!"
- Silver: "Could've been better."
- Bronze: "I expect more of you, team!"
- Consolation Prize: "D'oh..."

Trivia[]
- The Wonderful 101's Award system is modeled exactly after the Award system from the first Bayonetta game.
- Strangely, the Platinum Award is missing a joint on its Unite Hand's index finger: perhaps a subtle attempt to annoy you into replacing your Platinum Awards with anatomically accurate Pure Platinum Awards.
- Additionally, Wonder-Red is depicted without a Shirogane Drive on his chest on each of the 6 Awards statues.
- There are several interesting pieces of unused content that can be found in The Wonderful 101's game files relating to the Award system:
- An unused icon that is presumably a Pure Platinum Token.
- Unused 3D models of each of the 6 Medal types.
- Unused Achievement Icons for the Silver Savior and Platinum Paragon Bottle-Caps suggesting that The Wonderful 101's metal Award system was originally a letter grading system, with S Tier instead of Platinum, and B Tier instead of Silver.
- Official Pure Platinum Award replicas were created as a backer reward in the Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101: Remastered.
